White Skinny Ties

White might seem like a safe, neutral color, but when it comes to wearing white neckties, the color becomes a bit riskier. We live in a world where it’s the shirts that are white and the ties that are colored, whether it’s stripes, a bold solid, or a muted pattern. Switchin’ it up can leave you looking either fashion-forward or just plain awkward. Here are some ways to make sure you end up on the fashion-foward side of that line.

Go with solid white against black:

Ne-Yo’s look is classy…and just a bit jazzy. I think it’s the hat that completes it. Be careful, though – if it were a normal-width white tie, it might be too much, but the skinny tie is the perfect complement to the tailored black suit.

Use white as accents to a black shirt/pant combo, and tie it together with a patterned, white-base skinny tie:

The black dots on the tie keep this look from being too glaring.

Of course, you can also always pair a white tie with a solid colored shirt other than black, or a patterned shirt. Here’s something different, though: white on white.
